  1. Let's Talk Sports!!! • How many sports can you name? • What makes the sports different from one another? • Are all of the sports played by everyone around the world? • If you are good at or enjoy a particular sport does it mean that you will be good at or enjoy all sports?

  2. Thinking about the differences among sports, let’s start by breaking larger groups down into smaller groups.

Soccer, Hockey, Track, Ice Skating, Basketball, Water Polo, Football, Baseball, Lacrosse KINGDOM Uses A Ball Soccer, Basketball, Water Polo, Football, Baseball, Lacrosse PHYLUM Played on Land Soccer, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Lacrosse CLASS Ball is Round Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Lacrosse ORDER No Bats Allowed FAMILY Soccer, Basketball, Lacrosse No Sticks Allowed GENUS Soccer, Basketball Uses Your Feet SPECIES Soccer

  4. When we classify, we begin with large groups then break them down into smaller groups. Kingdom Most diverse (different) Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species Least diverse (most similar)
