  2. Highlight of the 1820’s 1826 – Joseph Niepce takes the first permanent photograph. History states that cameras have been around since the 15th century but most of the progress in developing the camera started in the 1820’s.

  3. Highlight of the 1830’s • 1939 – Louis Daguerre patents the daguerreotype.

  4. Highlight of the 1840’s • 1840 – Charles Chevalier constructs the first folding camera.

  5. Highlights of the 1850’s and 1860’s • Bellowed cameras are introduced. • Thomas Sutton designs the first single lens reflex camera.

  6. Highlights of the 1870’s and 1880’s • 1888 – The Eastman Company manufactures the Kodak, the first built-in roll-in box camera.

  7. Highlights of the 1890’s • 1891 – Thomas Edison patents the “kinetoscope camera” • 1898 – Kodak introduces their Folding Pocket Kodak.

  8. Highlight of the 1900’s • 1900 – Kodak introduced their first Brownie.

  9. Highlights of the 1910’s and 1920’s • Vest pocket Kodak using 127 film. • Autographic system. • The Leica A is introduced.

  10. Highlights of the 1930’s and 1940’s • 1930 – First flashbulb • 1936 – First Single Lens Reflex camera • 1948 – First Polaroid instant image camera

  11. Highlight of the 1950’s and 1960’s • 1963 – Kodak announces the Kodak Instamatic, a camera that is fully automatic.

  12. Highlights of the 1970’s and 1980’s • 1975 – Steven Sasson invents the digital camera. • 1986 – Kodak invents the first megapixel sensor. • 1986 – Fuji introduces the first disposable camera.

  13. Highlight of the 1990’s • First digital camera for consumer level markets.

  14. 2000 and Beyond • Technology has exploded. Cameras are everywhere. Cameras continue to increase in quality and capacity as technology advances.
