SagipSakais an advocacy that aims to achieve sustainable modern agriculture and food security by transforming agricultural communities to reach their full potential, improving farmers’ and fishers’ quality of life, and bridging gaps through public-private partnerships.
“SagipSaka is meant to give agriculture and fisheries the primacy that it deserves by focusing on improving the quality of life of our farmers and fisherfolk and, in doing so, building sustainable farming communities nationwide as a means to achieve food security. Only through strong public-private partnerships can we achieve this. Our farmers and our fishers are the backbone of the nation.”

There is Demand for Local Supply • A cocoa cooperative needs at least 100,000 MT of cacao beans per year • Currently, they can only source 2,000 MT per year • A multinational processing company have on-going arrangements with local traders for CORN (350,000 MT/year) and CASSAVA (200,000 MT/year)

SagipSakaPillars and their Roles:Local Government Units (LGUs) • organize farmers and fisherfolk into cooperatives • assist the farmers’ and fishers’ cooperatives to meet the accreditation requirements of the market (business sector/company) • create linkage with other government institutions to provide technical assistance and other requirements • provide regular pest and disease monitoring by the assigned Agricultural Technologist • assist the farmers and fisherfolk in the preparation of Project Proposals, Work Plans, Agro-enterprise Plans, and other documents
SagipSakaPillars and their Roles:CSOs and MFIs • provide capability and capacity building activities/training to farmers and fisherfolk • form cluster of farmers for agroenterprise development • Provide assistance in formulating and implementing an agro-enterprise plan • Assist in conducting market chain study • Provide financial and bookkeeping management training • Provide leadership seminar and teambuilding activities
SagipSakaPillars and their Roles:Farmers and Fisherfolk Groups • provide quality produce to the market, with assurance of supply and based on market requirements • undergo periodic training and capacity building to ensure acquisition of latest techniques and skills in running the farming community enterprise • once established, upgrade their facilities and systems to improve quality and consistency of supply • consistently look for market opportunities to sell their produce • manage their assets and financial statements and acquire basic marketing skills
