  3. Clean-up • Use a paper towel to clean the butter out of your container and lid • Pour your water/buttermilk in the disposal bucket • ONE partner may check in with Mrs. Ernst for permission to go wash the equipment • Return all CLEAN equipment to front table • Make sure your work area is clean!

  6. Physical Change • Any change in matter that takes a substance from state to state without a change in the composition

Physical Change • Happens when matter changes from one state to another • Happens when you change the size, shape or amount of a sample of matter • Happens when you mix matter that doesn’t react with each other • Doesn’t change the substance (You have the same stuff you started with) • Generally reversible (you can “undo” it)

  8. Chemical Change • Any process where there is a change in the atomic or molecular structure of the substance • One or more substance changing into new substance(s) • Also called a chemical reaction

  9. Chemical Change • Happens when you have a chemical reaction • Atoms rearrange to form new substances • You don’t have the same stuff that you had when you started • Generally not reversible • Once it’s done, it’s done!

  10. Evidence of Chemical Change • Color change • Unexpected temperature change • Gas formation (bubbles) • Formation of a solid from liquid(s) • Change in odor • Flame/combustion
