  1. HIFI Calibration Overview Frank Helmich HIFI in-orbit calibration manager

  2. Overview • Calibration Review • RID answers • Specific cases • Ground-based preparation • PV plan

  3. Calibration Review • Review held last year • 28 RIDs were accepted • All were answered at the end of January either closed or a plan is made to close the RID • The report was very favourable concerning the strategy and documentation

  4. RID answers • Almost all RIDs are closed • Difficult cases: • Removal of standing waves through deconvolution methods: is under study this year • Direct detection response of HEBs: It looks like this can be determined to about 1% accuracy in the lab with a narrow-band filter • How can models of Solar System Objects be cross-checked? – Will be part of the Herschel calibration workshop in December • Absorption tests are requested, but there is no hardware and no tests planned • Updating documentation and tracking of priorities is slow because of man power problems

  5. Ground-based preparation • Asteroid measurments have been made with CSO SHARC II at the end of last year • Weather was not optimal but the consequent measurement series of planet –asteroids –planet – etc. shows that a high internal accuracy can be reached • The rest of the asteroid program we leave to PACS/SPIRE and the ground-based observatories themselves • We still need measurements of about 6-12 AGB stars (CO 6-5) in the South for standard spectra: Does APEX provide opportunities?

  6. PV plan • This year the Performance Verification plan will be written • First estimate of time is hopefully available before summer. First issue must be present before the end of the year • PV will take place after check-out and engineering – The instrument works at the start of PV • Most is already written down in the frame work and the Use Cases: Ordering and filling in missing details to be done • Manpower may be an issue this year
