  1. The Dangers of DehydrationPresented by:Juan Zavala and Lia SeatsJanuary 12, 2010

  2. WATER THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENT • Water is referred to as the universal solvent and is considered the essence of life. It is this very presence of water that is attributed with our planet’s ability to have created life and to sustain it. • The mantra in planetary cosmology is “where there is water, there may be life.” • Water is the most important essential nutrient in the human body • Even in view of this incredible importance, we are not vigilant enough about maintaining its purity and accessibility

  3. The Functions of the Human Body (courtesy of GHC Global Healing Center)

  4. Dehydration Facts • Our muscle and brain tissue is roughly 70% water yet it is estimated that over 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated • Most people have been chronically dehydrated for so long that it is estimated that over 37% of Americans thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger • Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3% • One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue • Research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of suffers

  5. Dehydration Facts • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page • Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%. It can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79% and reduce the risk of developing bladder cancer by 50%

  6. Interesting Info on Dehydration • Mild dehydration will cause the urine to start to get dark. It will change from light yellow to dark amber. You can become constipated with lymphatic congestion and ensuing toxemia. The skin, lips and mucous membranes become very dry • With moderate dehydration you become fatigued, sunken eyes, skin does not bounce back when pinched on back of hands, dizziness/vertigo and lightheadedness. Cold hands and feet, muscle cramping/twitching, headaches and problems concentrating

  7. Interesting Info on Dehydration • With severe dehydration you can experience weak irregular heart beats (often racing) with low blood pressure. Rapid breathing, confusion and disorientation, vomiting and/or diarrhea and in extreme cases seizures, coma and death • To avoid dehydration drink a minimum of 6-8 glasses of water daily. A more accurate method is to divide your total body weight by 2 and that is how many ounces you need to drink each day

  8. Dehydration Details • So a 140 pound person would need 70 ounces of water per day. Keep in mind that certain health, exercise and climate conditions make the amount go up. It never goes down • Chronic dehydration is believed by some researchers to put the body in a “fight or flight” mode which causes the body to physiologically produce stress hormones • These stress hormones like cortisol have their own effects on the body. It goes without saying that you do not want to walk around in a chronic state of stress because of dehydration

  9. Drinking more water… Helps to lead a pH balanced life

  10. WHAT IS THE REAL REASON • Why do we age • Why do we get Sick • What causes Disease/Dysfunction Acidosis & Over-Acidity

  11. pH LEVELS OF EVERYDAY DRINKS

  12. WATER QUALITY ISSUES We now live in an extremely toxic environment. To provide some real national examples of just how much poison we are exposed to each year, consider the following statistics from the most recent 2004 Toxic Release Inventory National Report • 4.24 billion pounds of chemicals were released into our environment • Some 650 chemicals involving 90,000 different chemical forms

  13. WATER QUALITY ISSUES • These toxins were created by industries as on-site air emissions (1.55 billion pounds) and direct discharges (721 million pounds) into receiving streams and bodies of water • 602 million pounds were discharged by underground injection wells polluting our precious aquifers. 541 million pounds were deposited into landfills • Lead emissions increased by 25 million pounds since 2001, totaling 445 million pounds of which 83% were created by metal mining companies

  14. WATER QUALITY ISSUES • Mercury emissions totaled 4.8 million pounds. 67% of all air emissions of mercury and mercury compounds were created by the electric utility industry • Dioxin and dioxin-like compounds which are some of the most toxic substances on earth are measured by increments of .1 grams, that’s 1/10 of one gram, totaled 111,472 grams or 246 pounds in 2004

  15. WATER QUALITY ISSUES • These figures do not even reflect automobile or other internal combustion engine emissions only industrial emissions. We live in an alarmingly toxic environment! It is estimated that 25% of the U.S. population is likely to suffer to some extent from heavy metal poisoning • If there is any light at the end of this tunnel it is that total toxic emissions have decreased by 57% during the 17 year period from 1988 to 2004

  16. THE SCARY TRUTH • These staggering facts lead to the reality that when you breath, eat food and drink water you are consuming and accumulating toxins • There is no escape from this deluge of environmental toxins and the haunting question that remains is • “How toxic am I and how is it affecting my body”

  17. PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF TOXICITY • The following is a partial list of common clinical symptoms and conditions associated with possible environmental toxicity: • Abnormal pregnancy outcomes • Atherosclerosis • Broad mood swings • Cancer • Chronic fatigue syndrome • Chronic immune system depression • Contact dermatitis • Fatigue

  18. PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF TOXICITY • Fertility problems • Fibromyalgia • Headaches • History of increasing sensitivity to odors, or medications • Joint pain • Kidney dysfunction • Learning disorders • Memory loss • Mineral imbalances (particularly zinc and calcium) • Multiple chemical sensitivities • Muscle pain and weakness • Non-responsive or recurrent yeast infection • Panic attacks • Parkinson’s disease • Tinnitus • Unusual responses to medication or supplements • Worsening of symptoms after anesthesia or pregnancy
