  1. 5 Maintenance Tips for Your Diesel Engine

  2. Tips for Your Diesel Engine • If you count on your diesel vehicle daily and you can't afford it breaking down, then you need to ensure regular maintenance. • By performing simple day-to-day maintenance checks, you can prevent costly repairs and inconveniences.  • While your favorite mechanic for sure will not mind looking after your vehicle, it pays to know how to care for it daily.

  3. Here are some Tips You Might Want to Include in Your Checklist:

  4. Be Sure It's Always Clean • If you want to ensure longevity for your diesel engine, then you need to keep it clean at all costs. If dirt and grime accumulate, this can damage your diesel's components. • Long drives will especially require well-kept engines as you don't want to catch problems while on the road. Always check your vehicle's fuel, oil, and air. • If you're not sure how to get started, take your vehicle to your diesel mechanic so their team can walk you through the essentials.

  5. Change Fuel Filters Regularly • Diesel engines usually have two fuel filters. Always include changing of fuel filter in your maintenance routine. • Cleaning should be done every 15 miles. A fuel filter keeps dirt and rust away from the fuel. • When you change the filter, you also ensure fewer contaminants in your fuel, and the more efficient it will be too.

  6. Keep Watch of Your Coolant • Monitor acidity levels of your coolant. If it remains acidic, this can cause other parts of the vehicle to rot. • Make it a habit to flush your coolant regularly. Set a schedule and save it in your calendar so you won't forget. • Remember, too, that plain water shouldn’t be used as a substitute to a coolant as it will not be able to disperse heat.

  7. Change Oil • If it's 15k miles for your fuel filters, it will be every 5k miles for your diesel engine oil. • But this depends on how you're using your vehicle. • You may need changes more frequently the harder your vehicle works.

  8. Replace Air Filters • Check your air filter regularly and replace it as needed. Air filters do not cost much and replacing it is easy too, so don’t delay replacements. • If your air filter fails, this may only cost you a fortune. Dirt and dust can contaminate your engine. It may seem like they're harmless but once they’re under pressure, they can also cause issues. • An air filter can catch and keep these types of debris out.
