What is WALIS? • The Western Australian Land Information System is the government’s mechanism for coordinating the management of spatial information. • A partnership of: • Federal, State & Local Government • Private businesses • Community organisations • Sharing geographic information and improving its usefulness and accessibility.

  10. SLICP - What is it? State Land Information Capture Program • Annual program, July-June timeframe • For State and Local Government • Capture of digital spatial data, aerial photography, satellite imagery and map production • Designed to reduce cost and avoid duplication in data capture

  11. SLICP – Can I Benefit? • Yes! • If you can: • Engage in the process with (potentially) 18 month lead times • Spatial data requirements have a shared interest across government OR • Contribute to the cost of data capture.

SLICP – How Does it Work? • Requests for data capture called in November, bids closing the following February • Requests lodged using template application forms – available on the WALIS website • Bids are collected, collated and cross government interests identified • Program developed, commences July, ends June

  13. SLICP – Two parts • The program has two parts that run concurrently. • PART A – The ‘State’ revision program • PART B – The ‘Agency’ projects

  14. Part A – State Revision Program The ‘State’ revision program is structured data capture that covers the whole state using a cyclic pattern with defined zones. • COST: • Shared by the WALIS Office and DLI • (with some funds provided by other agencies)

  15. Part B – Agency Projects • The ‘Agency’ projects are a consolidated set of all the small projects that agencies request. • Incorporating their requests into SLICP they can take advantage of whole-of-government contract saving. • COST: • Sole responsibility of the group or agency

SLICP – How to take part? • Read the document “The SLICP: How it works each year” • Decide whether your request forms part of the State revision program or is an agency project • Complete a SLICP 2006/07 “Application for Data Capture” • Complete any of the request forms (1-7) that relate to your specific data capture request

  17. SLICP – How to take part? • 5. Read and complete the check list on the last page of the “Application for Data Capture” • 6. Attach any documentation supporting your request • 7. Submit your application to WALIS prior to the • 31st January 2006

  30. Land Development Process • Streamline current processes and provide an on-line e-LDP system • One on-line system to lodge subdivision applications, check on progress, etc • Automation of interest enquiries; faster decisions, etc

  31. Register of Interests • One access point to initiate an enquiry on the rights, obligations and restrictions over any area in WA • Will cover range of interests, including heritage, environmental, hazards, infrastructure, etc

  32. Natural Resource Management • A single entry point for identifying and accessing NRM data directly from source agencies • Tools for maintaining data collaboratively, and for community groups to supply data back to agencies • NAP, NHT2, State of the Environment reporting, etc
