World Class Engineers • Aware of the World –Know the global breadth of engineering, Understand US and International Cultures • Solidly Grounded –Knowledge many realms of academia including: Math, Science, Chosen Field, etc • Technically Broad –Aware of other related fields and how they fit together • Innovative – Able to purse opportunities in both traditional and non traditional fields • Effective in Teams –Working together and communication skills • Successful Leaders –Ethical behavior, knowing how to manage a group

  3. What Classes Will I Have?! • Semester 1 (Generally): - Math 140 (Calculus) 4 credits - EDSGN 100 3 credits - Chem 110 (Possibly Chem 111) 4 credits - Physics 211 (Newtonian Mechanics) 4 credits - First Year Seminar 1 credit (16 Credits)

DON’T WORRY • Declaring done in 4th Semester • Major requirements must be fulfilled:Computer Science: All other Engineering Fields: Math 140 Math 140 Math 141 Math 141 Physics 211 Physics 211 CSC 120 or CSC 122 Chem 110 • Some majors are GPA controlled… Mechanical, Aerospace, Biological, Architectural, Computer Engineering, Computer Science

  7. Tired of Engineering Classes?! • Gen. Eds. – Out of Major classes required by the University - Arts (6 credits) – Music Ensembles, Web Design… - Humanities (6 credits) – Philosophy, CAMs… - Social Sciences (6 credits) – Econ, Women’s studies… - Health and Physical Activity (3 credits) – athletics, nutrition… Arts, Humanities, and Social Science credits may be distributed into a 9, 6, 3 format if the student wishes to explore one category more in depth.

Internships and Co-ops • Meet hundreds of companies at the Fall Career Fair in the Bryce Jordan Center • More opportunities at Engineering Spring Career Fair • Engineering Co-op and Internship Program: Get real-world experience in engineering while getting paid! • Internships: for the summer • Co-ops: semester-long rotations • PSU networking – 1 in 50 US engineers is a PSU grad!

International Opportunities • Some classes have an overseas trip included • Engineering design and leadership classes... • Study Abroad – Equivalent Engineering Courses available at: • University of Melbourne (Australia) • University of Leeds (England) • Denmark Technical University (Denmark) • Universidad Polytechnica de Valencia (Spain) • Or choose from programs in over 45 countries available through PSU! DON’T DO IT!!!
