The Lord’s Way • Planning isn’t “wrong”, but planning won’t get the work done. • Individual alertness – vigilance. • Love for souls and love for the Lord. • A “little” training – Matt. 4:18-19. • Matt. 4:22 – help people mend their ways. • Matt. 9:9 – stop collecting earthly treasures and lay up heavenly.
Constant Attention • To multitudes and individuals. • John 3:1-13 – at night. • John 4:5-26 – at noon or evening meal time. Listen for opportunities. • Be an “Andrew” – John 1:41. • Philip – John 1:45. • 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768…
Individual Teaching • So important that Philip was taken from a city to teach one man – Acts 8:25ff. • Luke 19:1ff – Jesus to Zachaeus. • Acts 16:25ff – Paul to the jailor. • Acts 10 – Peter to Cornelius (and household).
Stumbling Blocks • Danger of false expectations. (a) no one changes (b) everyone will respond. Did Jesus convert everyone? Does every seed sprout? • Danger of Instant success – mushrooms grow overnight, oaks take decades. Acts 17:11 • We want success to be visible. • Selfish sower – must get “credit”.
