  1. High and Low Pressure By: McKee, Jack, and Matthew

  2. Air Pressure •  The wind blows because of uneven heating.  Cold air weighs more than warm air, so the pressure of cold air is greater.  When the sun warms the air, the air expands, gets lighter, and rises.  Cooler, heavier air blows to where the warmer and lighter air was located ,or wind usually blows from areas of high air pressure to areas of low pressure.

  3. High Pressure • High pressure brings sunny days. Dominant high pressure means that the seven day forecast has sunny days and little or no precipitation. Regions to the east of a high pressure center often have northerly winds bringing in cold air while regions to the west have southerly winds bringing in warm air.

  4. Low Pressure • The centers of all storms is low air pressure. Also, low pressure brings clouds and precipitation. Low pressure usually means the weather will be unsettled often with plenty of rain, hail, or snow. Wind circulates around low pressure in a counterclockwise direction.

  5. Clouds that accompany High and Low Pressure • High pressure systems bring fair weather and few clouds. The clouds that accompany high pressure arealtostratus, cirrus, and cumulous. Low pressure brings cumulonimbus.

  6. Conclusion • High pressure brings sunny and low precipitation days with not many clouds. • Low pressure brings many clouds and high precipitation days. High levels of humidity and moisture accompany low pressure days.
