  1. Side Table Project By: • Tools Required • Table Saw • Miter Box • Drill Press • Drill • Sander • Planer • Drill Press

  2. Instructions to Construct the Aprons and Stretchers • Plane two boards that are longer than 40” and wider than 11” • Cut the two 40” long boards in half so 20”. Use the miter box to do this step. • Take two of the 20 “ boards and use the table saw to cut them down to 4 ¾” • Take the other two boards and use the table saw to cut them down to 2 1/2” • Tape together the two 4 ¾” wide boards together and the tape the two 2 ½” wide boards together. (You tape the boards together so when you use the miter box both boards with be the exact same length) • Use the miter box and cut both the 4 ¾” wide double board and the 2 ½” double wide board to 16 ¾” • Repeat processes 3-6 with the other planed boards, but when you use the miter box cut both the 4 ¾” wide and 2 ½” wide boars to 13 ¾” • To give the stretchers and aprons interest use the band saw to make a design in the apron and stretcher. • The best way to make sure you execute the same design both times is to make a stencil.

  3. (x 4) Instructions to Construct the Table Top • Plane four boards that’s length is greater than 22” and width greater than 11” to ¾” thick • Use the table saw and cut the four boards to 11” and then cut the four boards again to 5 ½”. Now you have 8 boards that are 51/2” wide • Glue together two if the 5 ½” wide boars one on top of the other. Use clamps to make sure the boards glue together well. Make sure the stacked pieces of wood are perfectly lined up when gluing since there are cut to the right dimensions. • Repeat process three more times so you have 4 double stack boards that are 1 ½” thick, 24” long, and 5 ½” wide. • Use the planer and plane the four 1 ½” boards to 1 1/8” • Let dry and glue the 1 1/8” thick double stacked pieces of wood together, side by side. • Sand by hand the top of the table top to remove any rough spots made from gluing the boards together. • Now make the final cuts using the table saw. Cut the width from 22” to 20’ (to make edges look good cut 1” from each side) • Next cut the length from 24” to 22” (to make edges look good cut 1” from each side) • Sand edges if needed

  4. Instructions to Construct the Table Top • Plane four pieces of wood that have a length greater than 23” and a width of 6” down to ¾” • Use the table saw and cut all four boards three times, set the table saw to 2” and feed the boards threw the table saw three times • Now you have twelve boards that are 2” wide and 23” long because you cut four boards three times each. (x 12) • Glue together three boards one on top of another • Repeat this process three more times • So Now you have…… (x 4) • Let dry then use the planer to plane the triple thick board to 1 7/8” • Then use the table saw and cut down to 1 7/8” ( make sure to cut 1/16” from both sides)
