Where we live • Caracal’s are found throughout Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Central Asia as far east as Northwest India. • They are most abundant in South Africa and Namibia, where their range is expanding, possibly due to persecution of black-backed jackals(which are thought to kill Caracal kittens)by farmers.
How big we can get ? Caracal’s grow up to 2-3 ft long. They also can weigh up to about 12 – 19 kg’s if they are a male however if a caracal is a female they weigh around 8 – 13 kg’s.
Caracal young • Caracal can have up to 1-4 young. • They breed in Africa and Asia normally in spring. • Caracal breed normally once every year when they are 2 to 3 years old.
Our prey • Caracal’s favourite prey/din din or dinner is Duiker (a type of deer), Common Quail, Cane rat. • The caracal’s diet is mainly focused on bird’s and small mammal’s, but they will also eat reptiles and insects.
Did you Know? • Caracal’s keep their fur scrupulously clean with regular grooming. It serves as camouflage in the dry seasons, provides warmth when night temperatures drop in the winter and acts as protection when the cat plunges into thorny acacia thickets in pursuit with its prey.
