  1. Ordered Steps Psalm 37:23 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way. NKJV

  2. Can God be Trusted: In a shaky and upside down world? • What you do with Good guys do seem to finish last? • What about when I have committed my way to the Lord, but I’m still unemployed… or underemployed … or my business is failing?

  3. Text: Psalm 37:1-4 NKJV Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. 2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3  Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4   Delight yourself also in the Lord,  And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

  4. Text: Psalm 37:5-7 NKJV 5  Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6  He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7  Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Psalm 37:8-11 8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm. 9  For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the Lord, They shall inherit the earth. 10     For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more.11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

  6. Psalm 37:12-15 12  The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13  The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. 14  The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow,  To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. 15  Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken.

  7. Psalm 37:16-19 16   A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. 17     For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the Lord upholds the righteous. 18  The Lord knows the days of the upright,  And their inheritance shall be forever. 19  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

  8. Psalm 37:20-22 20  But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the Lord, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. 21  The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. 22  For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

Psalm 37:23-25 • The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. 24   Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;  For the Lord upholds him with His hand. 25  I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.

  10. Psalm 37:26-28 26He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore. 28  For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

Psalm 37:29-33 29  The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever. 30  The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice. 31  The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide. 32  The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him. 33  The Lord will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged.

Psalm 37:34-36 34   Wait on the Lord,  And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.35  I have seen the wicked in great power,  And spreading himself like a native green tree. 36  Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.

  13. Psalm 37:37-38 37  Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace. 38  But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off.

  14. Psalm 37:39-40 39  But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. 40     And the Lord shall (always) help them and (always) deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And (always) save them, Because they trust in Him.

  15. A Picture of Promise vv. 23-24 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. 24   Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;  For the Lord upholds him with His hand. Father God making steps in the Snow ahead of You! B. Three components of this picture that spill out of this instruction… 1. An Ordered (firm) step is One which the God of the Universe has gone ahead of His own…creating destiny and promise ahead of His children…. • God looks at our lives and has already created a Desired Destiny over us… In His eyes these steps appointments with His Provision and Promise our already done. • Before we were formed in our mother’s womb… God saw us and created a desired Path for us. • God has designed a Path exactly for you … which will release You into His designed and created destiny over Your life…. • This path is perfectly fitted to you… custom made to unleash all of His capacities and Joy in you. • An “Ordered Step” is One that is custom fitted to Your temperament, gifts, purpose and significance. • It’s that step for which You were created…ever felt that you were out of sync with what You were created for? • Ill. Praying for those who need jobs right now or direction in their lives. God showed me as I prayed for these individuals that He is Your supplier but Oh so much more than just meeting the resource issues of Your life… Give you that perfect place that You are created for… full of significance, meaning, purpose and impact. 2. The second part of this promise from God is the picture of that son/daughter straying off path or stumbling as they make their way…. • “Abba Father” reaches down, picks us up and sets us back on track… brushes off the snow and cleans us up but sets us back in His designed Path…. • Even when you totter and fail… vv. 23-24 God comes and re-established your steps…. • God delights in your path… • Watching a Little league game and watching the parents watch the little league game… Dad’s swinging with the pitch… moms lurching forward when the ball was coming at their child… • God is telling us this morning … He delights in our efforts and trying and struggling because He knows are capabilities … He created them in us. • Beloved some of you are here today and as You look around You are wondering if You are going to make it… You are in the midst of the Battle…. • The journey has been long… the wind in your face … and though you can see the tracks you are not sure the Father hasn’t abandoned you along the path…. • I have a Word for You… You steps have been “Ordered by the Lord!”

  16. Ordered Steps 1. An Ordered step is One in which the God of the Universe has gone ahead of His own…creating destiny and promise… • An Ordered Step is “Abba Father” setting us back on track when we fall or stumble. 3. An Ordered step is the place of God Delighting over your journey, trusting Him.

  17. Ordered Steps, can they always be trusted? • What do I do when “it seems” that God isn’t paying attention???? • What do I do when I look around and the wicked are prospering and I am floundering???? • What do I do in the Delay????

  18. The Wrestle of Ordered Steps…. A. Fear (Fret not) vs. 1, 7, 8, • Envy (Jealous feelings against those who appear to be in better hands or positions.) vv. 1, 16 • Delay …. (Wait patiently for Him) vs. 5, 7, vs. 10 • Anger … (Over injustice… vv. 8-9)

  19. The Trust required in the wrestling • God has all things under control • Evil men will be cut off …vs. 9 • God is the protector and our provider … vs.10-12 • God knows the day of that which is confronting you. Vs. 13 • The arm of the wicked will be broken while the one who trusts will be held up in God’s arms vs. 16-17 • The wicked always steal but the who trusts gives liberally. Vs. 21

  20. The Things to do as we Wait…. • Trust in the Lord and do Good (vv. 3,4,5,7, 34, 39) • Dwell in the land and ENJOY SAFE PASTURE… Vs.3 • Live with Patience and Confidence…. (vv. 3,27,34,37) • Delight yourself in the Lord … (vs. 4) • Commit your way … (vs. 5)

  21. The Promises of Ordered Steps…. • Give you the desires of your heart … as you delight yourself in the Him. Vs. 4 • Champion your cause … (vv. 6, 17, 39-40) • Cause you to Inherit the land … vs. 9, 11, 18, 19, 22, 27, 29,34. (8 times)

  22. Conclusion: The Call of this Psalm… Psalm 37:40 God Always … Helps and delivers those who call on Him. Delivers those who seek His ways Comes to those who trust and wait on Him …
