The role of a fencing director is crucial in ensuring the integrity and smooth operation of competitions. Key responsibilities include enforcing USFA and FIE rules, awarding points accurately, and maintaining order on and off the strip. Directors must manage coaches, spectators, and players, applying penalties when necessary. They should also ensure the tournament progresses efficiently while making correct calls. A thorough understanding of the right-of-way rules in foil and sabre, and point awards in epee is essential for effective judging and maintaining a fair playing field.
