  3. Why Outrigger Island? An outrigger is a specialized canoe that is fitted with lateral supports known as “outriggers.” These give stability to unsteady canoes and allow the paddlers to navigate through the rough seas. Today’s families and children are surrounded by the crashing waves of the modern-day media, the unpredictable seas of daily family life, and the troubled waters of simply growing up. It’s no wonder that kids belief systems capsize before they even get started. We can equip kids with the stabilizing truth that God is real, Jesus is his son, Jesus is the only way to receive salvation, the Bible is God’s Word, and ultimately their actions show what they believe.

What is Vacation Bible School and Why Do we Do It? • VBS • Presents one of the most strategic outreach tools for the church and includes age-appropriate evangelistic emphasis. • Provides sound, relevant Bible study that enables people to experience and respond to the Gospel message in ways that are appropriate for them. • Enlists teachers to lead specific functions based on their abilities, interests, and spiritual gifts. • Develops and entry point into church and Christianity for many unchurched people. • VBS is comfortable and appealing to may unchurched people. This provides the church with opportunities to establish ongoing relationships.

Lifeway’s VBS Statistics • In 2006, over 2.9 million people were enrolled in VBS. • Over 94,000 decisions to accept Christ as Savior were reported as a result of VBS. • More than 3,000 people committed their lives to church related vocations during VBS. • About 26 percent of baptisms are the result of VBS • More people have come to know Jesus as Savior through VBS than through any other single outreach event.
