Filling Out the Job Application • Always fill out in blue or black ink • Have your personal data sheet with you to avoid mistakes • Fill out the job application completely and neatly • Determines whether you get called in for an interview • When asked wage or salary write “open” or “negotiable” • Read through the form first • Write n/a in spaces that do not apply to you • Be specific about which job you want • Be observant of the amount of space that is designated for you to put your information in.

Your Resume • Your resume is a brief outline of your education, work experience, and other qualifications. • Usually should be one page in length • Categories it should include • Job Objective • Education • Work Experience • Honors and Activities • Special Skills and Interests • References • Try not to make your resume too long (its best to try to keep it to one or two pages)

Letter Of Application • Also referred to as a cover letter; helps to introduce yourself. • Three to four strong paragraphs • Include in your paper • The title of the job you are seeking • Where you heard about the job opening • Your strengths, skills, and abilities that are suited for this job • When you are available to begin work • A request for an interview • List enough major accomplishments so that the employer will want to interview you

  9. Your Portfolio • A collection of your best work! • Samples or pictures of your work • Letters of recommendation • News articles about you with your name highlighted • Reports or special projects that you have completed • This can be done electronically or physically.

  10. Conclusion • It is best to have all of these materials together and ready to go for jobs. • Make sure to go back periodically and update information as it changes, to ensure your job packet is always up to date.
