  1. Why Negative? By: Aston and William

  2. What? Negatives? Everyone knows negatives are used in math, but have you ever thought where else it can be used? In this PPT, we will find where we can use negatives throughout the world. It can be found in maps (coordinates and sea level heights), debit cards and overdrawing, in the stock market, temperatures, and the time left on your iPod when you are in the middle of “Baby” or “Boyfriend”.

  3. Maps with Negatives One of the places where you can find Negatives is on maps, to be more specific, coordinates. If you are researching for a Absolute location of a place, you can notice some coordinates have negatives in them. Another place where you could find negatives in maps is finding sea level heights in different lands and mountains (wait… Mountains and negatives?). If you were looking at China’s sea level, you would find something. It is −154 m above sea level on its lowest point (154 meters below sea level).

  4. Latitude & Longitude Latitude & Longitude is used when sailing, and captains of the ship use this to track where they are. To have a negative amount for Latitude, you have to go south, towards Antarctica. To have a negative value for longitude, you have to go west. For example, Minneapolis, MN is around 45.5 latitude, and about -93.3 longitude.

  5. X and Y axis You can find X and Y axis negatives throughout math, in graphing formulas. To have a negative value of X axis, the X axis value has to go to the left. To have a negative value of Y axis, your value has to go to down. If you have two points on the X axis, you know that the Y axis value must be a negative.

  6. I’M BANKRUPTING! Negatives can also be found on your debit card. If you borrow money from the bank, there will be a negative balance. If you want to buy a chocolate bar but you forgot your money and credit card, you will borrow 2 dollars from the bank and get $-2 balance. Then there is interest, but that is another thing, though it will add more more money to your negative. Another way to find negatives in money is by overdrawing, no matter if its in banks or in your lunch card, it will always be an important part.

  7. Stock Market When you are working in a stock market, positive profit is the best, but sometimes you also have negative profit. Negative profit happens when you are losing money, caused by buying high stocks, but selling it for a lower price you have bought it with. Sometimes investing in a company that is about to be bankrupt, will cause you to have negative profit, and your company’s value will go down as well.

  8. Conclusion All of this information shows that negatives are really important in our lives, and that there are many purposes for negatives as shown in our presentation. Negatives are found coordinates and sea level heights to track down information on mountains etc. Also found on debit cards and overdrawing balances. Also an important role in in the stock market, and can be found on the weather report temperatures. Negatives is a huge role in your life.
