  1. Downloaded from: justpaste.it/5myk2 What are the componets of Cognos tm1 Cognos is a reporting tool. Before going through Cognos component forms, let me introduce you to Cognos. Later we move to Cognos components. To learn Complete IBM cognos course visit ITGuru cognos tm1 training Blog Cognos: Basically, Cognos is a web-based reporting tool. It uses data collection and user-friendly informative reports. These reports can be maps, multiple pages, tabs and interactive prompts. The greatest advantage of this tool is that these reports can be accessed on the user interface (or) handheld devices such as mobiles, laptops, etc. Unlike other BI tools, this IBM Cognos gives you the option to export the report in various formats such as XML (or) PDF format. (Or) view files in XML format. Additionally, in Congo's method, we have an option to schedule context reports for a specific time. The benefit of this is that we can save regular report time. Now let us see about the cognos components. Component Categories in Cognos TM1 components are classified into two basic types that are: Client components Server components You may find the majority of these components installed by default with a standard product installation, but some are not. Client components: Client components require TM1 Server access. The following client components will be configured during a default installation: TM1 Server TM1 Perspectives TM1 Architect TM1 API OLE DB Provider TM1 Client Now let us see about components briefly. The TM1 basic concept: You can access this client as an add-in via Microsoft Excel and will allow limited access to the TM1 cube servers accessible. TM1 Client does not authorize any administrative access to TM1 Servers. It does not offer the capability of setting up and running a local TM1 Server. You need to install a local version of TM1 Server during the installation process and can be accessed by TM1 Client, TM1 Perspectives or TM1 Architect. TM1 Perspectives You can access data on TM1 Servers with TM1 Perspectives and you can also create and maintain TM1 artifacts and data on local and remote TM1 servers. Microsoft Excel can be accessed on your desktop. Click the Tools Add-Ins menu bar on Excel. Tap xla. Click OK.

  2. Usually the TM1P Add-In file is installed into the CognosTM1bin directory folder during installation. TM1P features The Tm1p.ini file is important as this is where you can set parameters that change the TM1 Perspectives experience of the user. ConnectLocalAtStartup: This parameter is set to True or False and shows whether the client tries to connect automatically to the local server at startup. AdvancedRulesEditor: This parameter is set to either True or False and defines the form of TM1 Rules Editor used. DisplayApplications, DisplayChores, DisplayControlCubes, DisplayCubes, DisplayDimensions, DisplayProcesses These parameters (set to True or False) signify to the user that TM1 Perspectives shows program files, chores, cubes, measurements, or processes. DisplayExplorerPropertiesWindow: This is once again a True or False parameter which indicates whether the Properties pane is visible on startup in Server Explorer. DisplayReplications: For most users, this Parameter True / False will be set to False. TM1 Architect It is a TM1 software program. You may use it to create and maintain data and metadata on TM1 servers locally and remotely. You will potentially have both TM1 Viewpoints and TM1 Architect accessing the same or different TM1 Servers open and running concurrently on your computer. TM1 API More experienced developers can use this interface to build C++ and VB applications which communicate with TM1. TM1 Server Components are the "heart" of TM1. These components run on the receiving and answering machine for all TM1 client requests. TM1 Admin Server This is the mechanism that keeps track of all other components of the TM1 Server running on the net. A process for the Admin Server runs on a computer and is known as the Admin Host. The TM1 Admin Server is called the "parent process" or "hosting process" of all other processes in the TM1. The TM1 Admin Server is automatically set up as a system service to you during deployment. The server registers itself with the admin server running on a designated admin host when each TM1 server begins. TM1 Clients reference the Admin Server to decide which TM1 Servers on the network are available. TM1 Server processes (described next) in their own configuration file (Tm1s.cfg) reference the AdminHost parameter to specify the admin host to register. AdminHost = mycomputer name Three admin hosts (host1, host2 and host3) are listed in the following screenshot and therefore all TM1 servers currently running on those machines will be visible in the TM1 Server Explorer of these users. TM1 CFG The following are some of the most interesting (and important) parameters in the config file.

  3. ClientVersionMaximum: This parameter will signify the DataBaseDirectory name of the TM1 Server ServerName: This will be the physical path to the SData folder of the TM1 Server and must end with a. LoggingDirectory: This will be the specific physical path to the logging folder for the TM1 Server and must end with an AdminHost: This is the name of the physical machine on which the TM1 Server is installed and run. TM1 Server The TM1 Server is a process which manages all TM1 client requests. It loads the names of all available permanent objects (cubes, dimensions, etc.) into the memory of the system and responds to requests from the client by performing calculations, consolidations, and updates as needed. Using a single TM1 Server Explorer (via TM1 Client, TM1 Perspectives, TM1 Architect, or TM1 Web), multiple TM1 Servers can be viewed and accessed if properly configured. TM1 Web TM1 Web is widely used to use a web browser to access the TM1-enabled Excel worksheets and reports. Installation of a reference worksheet Open the worksheet or report to be written in Microsoft Excel. Click on menu TM1. On TM1 Server click Save Workbook Choose New Application File to upload to TM1 Server Navigate to (and select) the directory of the client folder on the server where the file is to be residing. TM1 Top TM1 Top is a TM1 "usage" that allows you to dynamically track and manage threads (active user sessions) running in a Windows or UNIX TM1 Server case A Tm1Top.ini file is set up when TM1 Top is installed which you can configure to point to the TM1 server you want to monitor. You can edit the file using a text editor such as Microsoft's notepad and provide your server name and the computer (or admin host) on which the server is running. In addition, TM1 can write a snapshot of its view to the file at regular intervals, if you provide a log file name. TM1 Contributor TM1 Contributor includes the following. TM1 Contributor Web Client: This is a web-based client used in the TM1 Contributor Workflow framework to search and contribute data. TM1 Contributor Administration: This is a configuration, design and management resource that administrators use to build planning applications and set applications protection. Conclusion: I hope you reach a conclusion about components of cogno TM. You can know more from industry experts and learn through cognos tm1 online training.
