Reflexive & Intensive Pronouns. Lesson 3.5. Here’s the Idea. Pronouns that end in –self or –selves are either reflective or intensive pronouns. A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject and directs the action of the verb back to the subject. The winners considered themselves lucky.

  2. Here’s the Idea Pronouns that end in –self or –selves are either reflective or intensive pronouns.

  3. A reflexive pronoun refers to the subject and directs the action of the verb back to the subject. • The winners considered themselves lucky. • How do you prepare yourself for a game?   4. An intensive pronoun emphasizes the noun or pronoun in the same sentence. • I myself just keep saying, “We’ll win!” • The players themselves designed their uniforms. What pronoun can we take out and the sentence still make sense? myself What pronoun can we take out and the sentence still make sense? themselves

  5. Some very important information all writers need to remember! • Hisself and theirselves may look like real words, but they cannot be found in any dictionary. • Look for them yourself and see if you can find them. • You should use himself and themselves instead. Yata….Yata….Yata

  6. Directions: Identify the reflexive or intensive pronoun in each sentence.
