Lessons from the Comics

Explore the importance of respectful classroom discussions through the scenario of Larry the Alligator potentially breaking a class rule. We analyze what rule the teacher perceives Larry is violating and the reasons behind his actions. Moreover, we discuss alternative consequences the teacher could use to help Larry grasp the rules better. By applying the 3 R’s for discussion questions—Respectful, Related, and Reasonable—we can cultivate a supportive learning environment that encourages students to express their thoughts while maintaining respect for one another.
