  2. Psalm 40:2 “He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.”

  3. “Horrible pit” (KJV) Def. as a “dungeon” Must realize that God does this for us: Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 5:6-11; 1 John 4:10 Delivers us from the pit of destruction (sin): Psalm 103:1-5 1 Timothy 1:15 “He drew me up from the pit of destruction…"

  4. Don’t think it’s possible? Think again! Ephesians 3:14-21 Luke 18:27 Must realize that your failures are not final: 1 Peter 3:18 1 Peter 5:6-11 “He drew me up from the pit of destruction…"

  5. “He drew me…out of the miry bog…" • Luke 15 • With the pigs = sin. • It is foolish (Proverbs 26:11). • That passage applies to sin, as Peter used it in 2 Peter 2:22.

  6. Note the confidence we should have in the “rock”: Psalm 18:2, 28:1, 95:1, 144:1 What the church was built on - Matthew 16:13-18 What we need to build our lives upon - Matthew 7:24-27 “He set my feet upon a rock…”

  7. “He makes my steps secure…” • Note the confidence we should have in our daily walk: • Psalm 119:105, 133 • 1 Peter 2:21 • 1 Corinthians 11:1 • “Exercise daily by walking with God.”

  8. KEY: Psalm 40:1 “I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry.” • “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
