  4. Partner Work • With a partner, read through this article again. • As you read, you have two tasks: • Underline any words or phrases you are unfamiliar with, and • Next to each paragraph, write a brief, one sentence summary.

  5. Reflection • At the bottom of paragraph 4, it says manufacturers deliberately made Oxycontin more difficult to crush and snort. Why do you think they did this? Do you think this was a good idea?

  6. Reflection • In paragraph 5, they mention doctors filling out larger prescriptions than necessary. Why do you think doctors do this?

  7. In paragraph 6, it says “at least 14 states have passed ‘Good Samaritan’ laws, granting limited immunity to witnesses of an overdose.” Based on the context of this paragraph, what does this statement mean? • Do you think this is a good idea?
