  1. Community Service Support of athletics in our community

  2. Service Learning • Servicer learning is “the incorporation of community service within an educational system, esp. as a graduation requirement” • http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/service+learning

  3. Benefits of Service Learning • “Benefits for Service Recipients, Communities, and Society • Beyond the young people the organizations directly involve, community-based service-learning benefits the people served, their communities, and, ultimately, society:     It meets real needs and priorities for individuals and communities, as young people bring new energy, capacity, and creative ideas. • Community residents have opportunities to build positive relationships with young people. • Communities see youth in a different way—as resources, not problems. • A new generation of caring and experienced citizens, activists, and volunteers is cultivated.” • http://www.servicelearning.org/instant_info/fact_sheets/cb_facts/benefits_cbosl/

  4. Service Projects • Habitat for Humanity • Meet the Blazers • Boys and Girls Club • American Red Cross • American Cancer Society • Softball Recruitment • Working a golf tournament

  5. Habitat for Humanity/ Blazer Build • We helped build a house for a lady in the community. She was extremely nice and really appreciated the work we put in. It was a fun and good experience and participating with my team made everything better.

  6. Meet the Blazers • Meet the Blazers was a time for younger kids in the community to come and meet the baseball and softball teams. It was fun to be around the baseball team and get to see the kids’ faces light up as they got to meet some of the people they go out and support on a regular basis.

  7. Boys and Girls Club • Some of the Valdosta State softball team went to the Boys and Girls Club numerous times to spend time with the kids there. Many of the kids needed help with homework or just a little extra attention. It was so good to be able to provide this for them.

  8. Community Service I helped with Relay for Life. Our team raised a lot of money for the cause. Our softball team helped with Habitat for Humanity.

  9. We volunteered at a local Boys and Girls Club and we encouraged people to give blood. Helping Out

  10. What did I get out of community service? • Participating in community service should be done by everyone. It is such an important thing to do and is so meaningful. I always feel better about myself after doing some community service. Also, it looks good and sets an example for others.
