  9. My Overarching Priority as 2014 IEEE President • To lead IEEE into the next decades. Action : Promote thought leadership Challenge : How can IEEE play a larger role in fostering global innovation initiatives?

Specific Priorities as IEEE President • Guarantee that IEEE will have a leadership role in new technologies and in fostering and sustaining global innovation initiatives. • Region 10 Opportunities: Cooperation with indigenous large corporations (from Director Wong presentation to IEEE BoD Last June)

Continue the push for IEEE Globalization to ensure greater worldwide participation of members and volunteers, that will also guarantee the offering of better and regionally focused products and services across the globe. • R10 Threat: Perception that IEEE is US-centric • R10 Opportunity: Enlarged pool of volunteer leaders that can contribute beyond local and regional • R10 Threat: Lack of equitable member benefits across global IEEE

(social network platforms pose a significant threat to this goal)

Accomplishments as Society President Strengthned ComSoc leadership in the key telecommunication technology areas; Society Membership reached 62000 members, an all time record; Society had record revenue years Developed a coherent package of products and activities for a then evolving technology; Established partnership with other Societies to address new technology areas; Enhanced web-based products; Established mechanisms for interaction with industry. Created a Global Chapter Chair Congress Created IEEE Transactions on Wireless Comm. Revamped the IEEE Communications and Networking Conf. , now its premier event in this area.

Accomplishments as IEEE Vice President, Technical Activities (1) Strengthened relations with other boards: Held joint Sessions with MGA and PSPB Appointed Society Membership Adhoc Committee to partner and leverage MGA expertise in addressing society membership decline and value offered to members. Worked with PSPB on timeliness issue. Successfully worked with EAB to develop a framework for IEEE Certification Business. re-established contacts with industry leaders to improve the quality of our products to practitioners; Initiated development of a technology roadmap (Technology Navigator tool) for IEEE-TA and IEEE.

  23. Accomplishments as IEEE Vice President, Technical Activities (2) Significantly improved the operations of the Society Review Committee. Appointed a task force to analyze TA Business Models that made very important recommendations for the future of IEEE TA and that were endorsed by TAB. Pushed the successful solution of long-standing items such as: new conference publications revenue distribution algorithm and policy regarding conference no-shows, creation of Technical Commitees.
