  8. MODERNISATION OF THE RAILWAY LINE BUCHAREST–BRASOV, BUCHAREST–CAMPINA SECTION Financing institutions: EIB+Government of Romania Value: 281 M Euro Distance: 90 km Commissioned in June 2004

First approach: One single tender for the selection of a general contractor to perform all the modernisation works, for the section Bucharest – Ploiesti (~70 km) Result of the tender: best offer with ~ 15 % above the budget. Conclusion: tender was cancelled Modernization of the Bucharest-Campina section

Second approach: Works were split in specialties: infrastructure bridges electrification signalling culverts civil works Scope of the works was extended: section extended with additional 20 km, to Campina; new rails and elastic fastening for all section; ETCS level 1. Modernization of the Bucharest-Campina section

  11. Second approach (cont.): Tenders for each specialty. Coordination of all contractors provided by the consultant and by CFR SA Result of the tenders: contracts signed (with the extended scope of works) witihin the available budget. Works were performed within the schedule and budget. Time consumption for the two approaches: ~1 year Modernization of the Bucharest-Campina section

REHABILITATION OF THE RAILWAY SECTION DROBETA TURNU SEVERIN – CARANSEBEŞ – TIMISOARA – ARAD Estimated cost of works and design: 891 M Euro Distance: 267 km Planned actions: Feasibility Study planned for 2007, and works to be performed between 2011 and 2015. REHABILITATION OF THE RAILWAY SECTION CRAIOVA – STREHAIA – DROBETA TURNU SEVERIN Estimated cost of works and design: 635 M Euro Distance: 114 km Planned actions: Feasibility study planned for 2007, and works to be performed between 2011 and 2015. REHABILITATION OF THE RAILWAY SECTION CALAFAT - CRAIOVA Estimated cost of works and design: 422 M Euro Distance: 107 km Current status: The feasibility study was carried out in 2002 – 2003. The detailed design will be carried out in 2008. The ways of financing are under analysis.
