Estonian Railways has significantly increased container freight capabilities from 2000 to 2008. Since May 18, 2007, they have dispatched 15 container trains to Moscow with average loading times of 36 hours and unloading times of about 2 hours. Approximately 40% of returning containers are empty. The total train cycle, from loading to unloading, takes 10 days. Future plans include adding more trains and developing new routes, notably to Kazakhstan, enhancing connectivity with international rail networks while maintaining a stable tariff policy.
