After updating my Windows 7 Professional system on February 15, 2014, I encountered issues with running an old DOS program in XP Mode. Error messages indicated an inability to enable integration features, disrupting access to mapped drives. Following extensive troubleshooting, I discovered that uninstalling patch KB2830477 resolved the problems, restoring flawless functionality. It’s essential to ensure compatibility after updates, particularly for legacy applications relying on specific configurations. This experience highlights the need for careful patch management in legacy environments.

KB2830477 • Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feature is available for Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2830477"I’ve been running an old DOS program I wrote years ago in XP Mode on a Windows 7 Professional computer for several years. It’s the only way that program will run in Win7 and it’s always worked flawlessly. It requires access to Win7’s mapped drives and that’s never been a problem. After running Windows Updates on 2/15/14 I suddenly started getting error messages re. unable to enable integration features when starting up XP Mode. Didn’t happen every time at first and I was able to get it to work after several attempts. Then a day or so later I couldn’t get past that at all so I tried disabling then re-enabling integration and got it to load but none of the mapped drives showed up so my program couldn’t work properly. After wasting a lot of time trying all kinds of settings, restoring older copies of the XP Mode files, etc., I finally found the answer: KB2830477. Once I uninstalled that patch everything was back to normal. It’s been working flawlessly since then!"
