  4. Blood Cells • 45% of the total blood • The living portion of blood • Red Blood Cells (RBC) • White Blood Cells (WBC) • Platelets

  5. Red Blood Cells • 5,000,000 RBC’s per drop of blood • Carry oxygen through the blood • Oxygen attaches to hemoglobin • Iron is needed to make hemoglobin

  6. White Blood Cells • 5000-8000 per drop of blood • Fight infections and cancers • Amount per drop of blood will increase with infection

  7. Platelets • Initiate blood clotting
