  2. MFI beginnings … • November 6, 1973 • MFI was formed to undertake various programs for humanitarian and scientific purposes under the Science Act of 1958 (R.A. 2076)

MFI beginnings … • January 1980 • Skilled Manpower of the Eighties Congress was sponsored by the following organizations to address the pressing need to re-orient the Filipino workforce: • National Science and Development Board (NSDB) • Center for Research and Communication (now University of Asia and the Pacific), and • Meralco Foundation, Inc. (now MFI Foundation, Inc.)

The birth of the Institute … • 1983 • The Meralco Foundation Institute (now MFI Technological Institute) was established in the same year that the last batch of MFI-sponsored scholars at MTI graduated. • The Institute is MFI’s first operations center with 124 full scholars enrolled in three (3) technician courses.

Why Technician Education? • Realizations at the Skilled Manpower of the Eighties Congress • The critical shortage of the middle-level personnel or technician is headed for extinction. • A technician has the mind of an engineer and the skill of the worker, which enable him to bridge the gap between the two.

The Industrial Technician Program … • Qualifications: • Filipino Citizen • High School Graduate • Below 22 years old • Physically and mentally fit • Coming from a family whose annual family income is not more than P 150,000 or a per capita income of not more than P 20,000 • Should pass the admission tests and interviews of the Admission Committee and complete the Summer Technician Orientation Program (STOP).
