Brian Wilson who started the band was born into a musical family. First beginning in 1961 when Brian, his brothers, cousin, and friend from school formed their first band called Pendletones. • Growing up, Brian’s dad expected a lot of him and would beat him occasionally. • Giving his song writing abilities as an outlet, he first wrote soft sad lyrics about how his dad abused him. • 1963 came and The Pendletones became The Beach Boys, mixing their music with fifties blues and pop to follow it up with a rock beat approach. • They gave the ideal Californian surf boys image and were used as All-American role models through out the decade. • Being number two next to the Beatles on the charts for many years, they began to tour but left Brian to stay at home and write music. • Brian eventually became hooked on drugs and almost brought the band to an end. • Brian pulled himself out of his addiction did not help stop the Acid Rock and Drug Ages that were taking over the music era. Slug II: About the Beach Boys
The Beach Boys being the only American band to be on the world wide Top-Hit-List was a way to show their dedication and the dedication to their fans. • They created “California Rock” and “Sunshine Pop” all in one decade. • One record they hold today is: Record for having the most songs they published being on the top charts being 56 separate songs. And they hold the most sales of singles and albums sold in one day. • Although they seemed to be the American role models, they too had their issues with drugs and creating a drug era. They also gave hope to addicts to quit and look to a brighter note of peace and joy. Slug III: affects of the beach Boys
