  3. Descriptions DESCRIPTIONS • Light skin to dark skin • Little hairs scattered over the body • Weigh up to more than 3,500 pounds • Can grow up 13ft. And 4 meters long

  4. FOOD A MANATEE EATS • They chew their food with only their molars • They eat large water plants • Or they eat large vegetation

  5. HABITAT OF THE WEST INDIAN MANATEE • West Indian lives along the coast and in rivers from the Mid Atlantic, South eastern USA to the north eastern Brazil

  6. Habitat of the Amazonian Manatee • Lives in the coastal plains and rivers

  7. Habitat of the West African Manatee • The West African manatee lives in coastal areas and rivers in West African

  8. REPRODUCTION • Female can be bearing young at 3 to 5 years of age • Female manatees carry their young for about 1 year till giving birth to their new born manatee

  9. ENDANGERED SPECIES • All species of manatees are endangered • Largely due to over hunting ,habitat destruction, and accidents with boats • That is how manatees are endangered

  10. ADAPTATIONS OF THE MANATEE • Uses it’s rounded tail and paddle shaped front limbs to swim • Fish eat algae off of the manatee to clean them SYMBIOSIS
