  1. p17 JLIP studies D. Bloch, V. Siccardi, B. Clément (IReS Strasbourg) • Will show some : - Data/MC comparisons and PV, run, lumi effects - trigger bias studies • Use : new JetCorr v07-01-01 for both Data and MC - fixed p17.06 MC : 460k qcd40-80 + 80-160, 32k Z→bb→µ (pTµ>4) - 1rst fixing (not refixed) p17 Data : 52M QCD and 11M BID (pTµ>4) from runs 176000-208000 , 14M EM1TRK from runs 191000-208000 • Cuts : no trigger selection - preliminary (last December) bad run and bad lumi-block rejection - ≥ 2 selected jets (pT > 15 GeV) - ≥ 2 taggable jets if muon-jet event Note : from David Lam slides at January 17 top precision meeting : the data refixing will mainly reduce the jet energy by ~30% in the end-cap (|η|>1) → doesn’t expect too much change for the present studies … D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  2. taggability average taggability in qcd MC : 0.87 in p17 ( was 0.90 in p14) D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  3. taggability if |PVz| < or > 35 cm better agreement between Data and MC for |PVz|>35 cm ! D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  4. negative tag rate ~ good aggreement Data/MC (in same ET range) but nb. of jet dependence ? run dependence ? D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  5. negative tags if |PVz| < or > 35 cm Note : η very correlated with PVz : η·sign(PVz) mostly symmetric if |PVz|<35 cm, but < 0 if |PVz| > 35 cm D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  6. b-tag efficiency nb. of PV, luminosity and run dependence ? D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  7. Summary Data/MC comparisons Residual effects in tagging are ≤10% : the present ‘bugged’ Data and MC don’t allow to investigate much further… D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  8. lifetime trigger bias For trigger versions ≥ v13 (run ≥ 194500) : some bias may appear at L3 trigger level, due to cuts on : • PV : |z| < 35 cm • Track IP : ≥ 2-4 tracks with IP/σ > 3 (and PV cut) • Jet prob : ≥ 1 jet with prob < 0.05-0.3 (and PV cut) • Here, an event is ‘biased’ if it is only triggered by one of these at L3 (see the full list on next slide). It is not ‘biased’ if there is another trigger name present. • For v13, this affects the BID and EM1TRK samples (not the QCD sample) in the following proportion of events : D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  10. bias in EM1TRK sample taggability negative tag rate PV cut significantly affects taggability, Jet prob cut affects tag rate D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  11. bias in BID sample • Less easy to evaluate due to the lack of statistics (System8 is used) … • muon-jet b-tagging efficiency in : all v13 : 0.343 ± 0.004 all v13, |PVz|<35cm : 0.345 ± 0.004 L3 PV only : 0.38 ± 0.01why so high ? L3 PV+Track IP : 0.30 ± 0.02why lower ?? L3 PV+Jet prob : 0.31 ± 0.01and why so low ??? • Due to statistical fluctuation ? or to some correlation with another quantity, but which one ? D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)

  12. Conclusion Suggests some rules for the next round of p17 NN bid certification : • Reject events with L3 Track IP or Jet prob trigger bits, but keep L3 PV-only triggers • Compute TRFs and SF with |PVz| < 35 cm and |PVz| > 35 cm separately (maybe for the TRF at |PVz| > 35 cm, use the same ET dependence than at < 35 cm, just re-parameterize in |η|) Physics analysers should ‘mimic’ their trigger bias (if any) in their MC (or is it a bid-group job ?), but how can it be done ? - is there a trigger simulation ? - and if yes : how reliable is it ?? - and/or can it be tuned on real data ??? Would be useful to know the Physics groups’ needs ! D. Bloch (IReS Strasbourg)
