  2. Variables: A quantity that can change! Independent variable (IV) = decreasing mass Variable that “I decide what the variable is and how it changes” Dependent variable (DV) = density Variable that is measured to see what effect the IV has on it.

  4. Helpful Tips Carefully measure each block to the nearest tenth of a cm. When calculating the final answer round off and use the correct significant figures. You are writing a rough draft today. Neatness doesn’t count but if you can’t read it later that is not good either.

  5. Calculating Data Equation for Volume: V = l*w*h (Measure CAREFULLY!!!) Use centimeters (cm) Equation for Density: (Divide mass (in grams) by volume (in cm3)) Density = massD = m volume V

Record. • Measure and record the length, width and height of each block of wood. • Calculate the volume of each block of wood. Record. • Calculate the density of each block of wood. Record.
