  4. iPads (I) • Why? • Creativity: Apps including iMovie and Garageband • Variety of learning approaches: Auditory, kinesthetic, and visual • Technical: Minimal maintenance/loading time, maximum battery life (possibly full school day) • Shrinking world: Access to world 24/7 • No developmental walls? My 4 yr. old… • Motivation? Hawthorne effect

  9. SMART Boards (I) • How do we get funds? • Grant plan: • (1) Define your needs (vision, outcomes, responsibilities) • (2) Build a community of support • (3) Identify potential grants/fundraisers (note specific due dates) • (4) Develop a reporting plan (after successful grant)

Smartboards (II) • How do we get funds, continued? • Involve students (e.g., student council, student testimony): planning, executing fundraises & talking with school board/local businesses • Do not want to know how much time SMART Response Interactive systems will save on grading • Do want to know how much students like them and how it helps them learn • Expose community members (parent teacher conferences, school board meetings, etc)
