  4. Weight Cycling- A repeated pattern of losing and regaining body weight

  5. Eating Disorders- Extreme, harmful eating behaviors that can cause serious illness or even death

  6. Anorexia Nervosa- An eating disorder in which an irrational fear of weight gain leads people to starve themselves

  7. Bulimia- An eating disorder that involves cycles of overeating and purging, or attempts to rid the body of food

  8. Metabolism- The process by which the body breaks down substances and gets energy from food.

  9. Body Mass Index- (BMI) A measure of body weight relative to height.

  10. Overweight- Heavier than the standard weight range for your height by 10%.

  11. Obese- Having an excess of body weight of more than 20% of BMI standards.

  12. Underweight- Below the standard weight range for your height

  13. Binge Eating Disorder- An eating disorder in which people overeat compulsively

  14. Insulin- a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.

  15. Type 1 diabetes -usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin.

  16. Type 2 Diabetes -is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

  17. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin.

  18. Anyone can get type 2 diabetes. However, those at highest risk for the disease are those who are obese or overweight. • In addition, people who smoke, have inactive lifestyles, or have certain dietary patterns have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. 

  19. Vegetarian- A person who eats mostly, or only, plant based foods

TYPES OF VEGETARIANS • Vegetarians-those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish • Flexitarian -those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat • Lacto-vegetarian-vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products. • Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs. • Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin.
