  1. Practice: Social Work in Action Established for over 20 years, it is a forum for the publication of research and knowledge from practice. Promotes the international dimension of social work; fosters the exchange of learning, knowledge and values from and for practice. Papers are presented in an accessible format with content that is relevant to practicing social workers whatever their role and task. The editorial board is committed to offering constructive support to people new to writing for publication.

  2. Editors: Anne Quinney, Bournemouth University, and Keith Popple, London South Bank University practicejournal@bournemouth.ac.uk Book Reviews Editors: Karin Crawford and Janet Walker, University of Lincoln. Supported by a UK and International editorial board Published by Routledge

  3. Submitted paper are reviewed by 2 assessors, drawn from academic and practice backgrounds, who provide feedback and a recommendation to the editors. Papers are between 3-5,000 words long. Currently 4 issues a year. Time from submission to publication is around 12 months, and will take into account providing a balance of papers in a particular issue. Special Issues:- Social Work in South Africa (current issue), Gender & Sexuality (early 2009) Social Work in India (2010) and Social Justice (2010).

Aim & scope • To publish articles of a critical and reflective nature concerned with the theory and practice of social care and social work education at all levels • To present a forum for international debate on important issues and provides an opportunity for the expression of new ideas and proposals on the structure and content of social care and social work education, training and development • Papers must demonstrate and promote anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive approaches to training and practice

Submission process • All papers are peer reviewed by two assessors (assessors from across world) • Full size papers are 6,000 words • Shorter pieces for Ideas in Action are designed to encourage debate on current issues, or include examples of good practice: 750 - 2,500 words • All papers are submitted online through http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cswe • Need to ‘create an account’ first time of use

Some statistics • The journal comes out 8 times a year • An issue is about 100 pages in length • We receive about 10 new papers for review each month • Few papers are accepted outright – most are revised once, some twice, before publication • It can take up 1-2 years from 1st submission to publication • We have received papers from 10 countries since January when electronic submission began • UK, US and Canada top the league for submissions
