  2. What is the Purpose of This Power Point? • The purpose of this power point is to teach you about Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency during World War II.

  3. Who is Franklin D. Roosevelt? • He was born January 30, 1882, in Hyde park, New York. • He married in 1905, to Anna Eleanor Roosevelt; the niece of Former president Theodore Roosevelt. • Anna and Franklin had six children, but only five survived infancy. • In August of 1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt was diagnosed with Polio.

  4. United States entering WW II • December 7, 1941, America enters World War II. • Roosevelt makes his speech addressing to congress requesting declaration of war…That was the day Japan Attacked Pearl Harbor.

  6. Helping the American People • Without Franklin D Roosevelt’s optimistic attitude throughout the war, the American people would not have gotten through these tough times. • Even though he was paralyzed from the waist down, he still made the American People feel confident.

  7. Radio Broadcast • President Roosevelt made a series of national radio broadcasts to the American people called fireside chats. • These fireside chats were used to keep the American people updated on the war and to keep them calm.

  8. Roosevelt’s Military Policies • Not everyone agreed on Roosevelt’s military policies • He was blamed for the Pearl Harbor incident because people believe he left for the battle unprepared. • Most of the time he was successful with his plans to keep alliances together and win battles.
