VicHealth’s mission Our mission is to build the capabilities of organisations, communities and individuals in ways that: • change social, economic, cultural and physical environments to improve health for all Victorians • strengthen the understanding and the skills of organisations and individuals in ways that support their efforts to achieve and maintain health • make health and wellbeing a central part of our daily lives.

The spectrum of health interventions • Why focus on promotion and prevention? • Enables people to increase control over and improve their health. • Involves the population as a whole in the context of their everyday lives. • Activities are geared toward promoting health and preventing ill-health rather than focusing on people at risk for specific diseases. • Strategies are based on understanding the social, environmental and biological determinants of health and wellbeing.

  6. Aim To increase physical activity and social connection through participation in the arts. Objectives use of arts to engage and activate members of the community development of collaborative cross-sectoral partnerships pilot models that can be extended and replicated increase capacity amongst funded and partner organisations increase understanding of the physical and mental health benefits resulting from arts participation. What’s new? arts organisations as lead partner – eligibility defined project duration – 15 months funding amount - $70,000 Emphasis on: partnerships, especially cross-sectoral models for replication of projects mechanisms for strengthening sustainability working with communities* who have traditionally faced barriers to participation * people with a disability, with low socioeconomic status (SES), refugees, new arrival communities, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, indigenous people.

  8. MOTION focuses on participatory arts activities as a tool for community engagement and activation, i.e. creatively getting more people moving more often. Getting In On the Act: How arts groups are creating opportunities for active participation

  9. MOTION seeks to engage participants across the whole arc in an attempt to embed recognition of the benefits of increased physical activity in our everyday lives. Making Sense of Audience Engagement: A critical assessment of efforts by nonprofit arts organizations to engage audiences and visitors in deeper and more impactful arts experiences

Polyglot Theatre has created Tangle, an interactive outdoor play-space where children and families use the physical action of weaving elastic with their whole bodies to build a massive, touchable artwork. The web is built over the course of a weekend, facilitated by artists and fuelled by live music to encourage physical movement, artistic decision-making, imaginative play and dramatic interaction. • Video
