Blood in your saliva is normal for the first 24 hours and if there’s excessive bleeding, bite on a gauze pad placed directly on the wound for 30 minutes to control the bleeding.

  4. DIET & ANTIBIOTICS To prevent infection, make sure you take the prescribed antibiotics as directed by your dentist. Have plenty of fluids and try to avoid hot liquids or foods. On the day of surgery, have soft foods and liquids.

  5. CONTINUING MAINTENANCE Keep your lips moist by applying Vaseline. Make an appointment with a hygienist every six months. Keep physical activities to a minimum and resume normal activity when you feel comfortable. Avoid alcohol and smoking for two weeks. Avoid brushing the area with the surgical bandage and rinse your mouth with a good mouthwash.
