    2. OSCE Station Mr. Smith has been complaining of a rash that has come up over the past few weeks Please take a history and perform a dermatological examination with a view to making a diagnosis

    3. History TakingTop Tips! [1] Opening general remarks such as: - What problem/s have you noticed with your skin? I notice you have a rash/lesion on your skin can you tell me about it? Where did the rash start on the skin? Where did it spread to? How long has the rash/lesion been present? Has it been continuous or intermittent? Is it getting better or worse? Does anything seem to make it better/worse? Have you had any previous episodes? were they similar? Anyone else affected at home/school/work?

    4. History TakingTop Tips! [2] Any sensations from the rash/lesion itching, burning, scaling, blisters, pain, irritation, soreness? Any associated features environment, occupation, pets, any other symptoms? Have you tried any treatment for the rash/lesion topical creams/ointments, tablets did they help? PMH, DH, plus any history of atopy (asthma, eczema, hayfever- either personal/family history)

[3] A travel or sexual history may be relevant for some patients Ask how the rash/skin disease is affecting their life quality/social interactions Sun exposure history Have you ever lived/worked abroad, have you ever worked outside, do you burn in the sun, do you tan easily/eventually, anyone in your family with skin cancer?

[1] Patients should be examined in a good light All the patients skin should be examined if at all possible Remember to examine specifically the nails, mouth and scalp Remove any dressings or bandages if necessary Distribution of the rash/lesion? Is the skin colour normal or changed (hypo/hyperpigmented)?
