  2. Mirena is a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD). It offers long-term birth control and is a T- shaped plastic frame device that is inserted into the uterus, where it releases a type of the hormone progestin. If you make up your mind to use it, make sure you visit the best gynaecologist in Panchkula. To prevent pregnancy, Mirena helps in the following ways: ●It stops the sperm from reaching or fertilizing an egg by thickening the mucus in the cervix. ●Ovulation is partially suppressed by Mirena and thins the lining of the uterus. ●It helps prevent pregnancy for up to five years after the insertion of the device. ●The hormonal IUD has the approval of the Food and Drug Administration. The various benefits of Mirena are: ●Elimination of the need to interrupt sex for contraception. ●No requirement for the partner to participate. ●The device remains in place for up to five years. ●The device can be removed at any time and is followed by a quick return to your normal fertility. ●The device can be used while breastfeeding — although it is recommended to wait for six to eight weeks after childbirth because earlier placement increases the risk of injuring the uterus during placement. ●It does not carry the risk of side effects related to birth control methods containing estrogen.

  3. Mirena can also decrease: ●menstrual pain and pain related to the abnormal growth of the uterus lining. ●Reduction in the risk of pelvic infection. ●Reduces the risk of endometrial cancer. Due to non-contraceptive benefits, Mirena is often prescribed for women who experience: ●Heavy menstrual bleeding ●Cramping or pain with periods ●Endometriosis ●Anemia ●Fibroids Along with the pros of using Mirena, there are some risks associated with it. In less than 1 percent of women who use Mirena, they might be at risk of getting pregnant within a year of use. Women are at a higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy if they conceive while using Mirena — when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. Mirena prevents

  4. most pregnancies. Women who use Mirena are at lower risk of having an ectopic pregnancy than sexually active women who are not using contraception.
