  2. Effective ways to reduce the risks from other factors • Take action to avoid or reduce known risks • Obtain regular check-ups and recommended services to prevent disease • Practice healthful living

Taking action to avoid or reduce known risks Known risks are things that can be in our control, such as: • Avoid using tobacco products • Avoid the use of activities such as riding without a safety belt, or riding with an intoxicated driver. • Avoid the use of alcohol and other drugs • Avoid participation in unprotected sexual activity

  4. Obtaining regular check-ups and recommended services to prevent disease • Recommended services include medical care, dental care, and immunizations for prevention • See your doctor when you are sick to prevent the spread of disease at an early stage when it is more easily treated

  5. Practicing healthy living • Eat a healthy diet • Stay physically active

  6. Certain risk factors are related to health problems • Behavior and health status ex. smoking and lung cancer • Environment and health status ex. skin cancer • Genetic factor and health status ex. Sickle cell anemia, diabetes, hypertension, asthma

  7. Non-Communicable/Genetic Diseases:diseases that are not contagious or transferable from one human to another
