The Strategic Vision is: • To seek to create a smoke-free Grampian Strategic Objectives • Protect the population of Grampian from the dangers of passive smoking • To ensure that NHS Grampian acts as an exemplar in working toward a smoke-free Grampian. • To encourage and support the non-smoking population of Grampian to not start. • To encourage and support the smoking population of Grampian to stop. • To continue to work towards the national targets for reducing population smoking levels. • To ensure that partner organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector engage fully with tobacco control and work together to meet the objectives of this Strategy.

The Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 • Comes into effect on 26 March 2006 at 6 a.m. • It will be unlawful to smoke in wholly or substantially enclosed public places • The purpose of this law is to protect people form the harmful effect of passive smoking • Fines • Individuals £50 • for smoking in no-smoking premises • Businesses £200 • allowing others to smoke • failing to display warning notices • Environmental Health Officers of local councils will enforce the law
