  1. Dangling and Misplaced Modifiers

  2. Animals do the strangest things. • Reading a book, my cat crawled into my lap. • The young girl was walking the dog in a short skirt. • The dog was chasing the boy with the spiked collar. • The hunter crouched behind a tree waiting for a bear to come along with a bow and arrow. • The woman walked the dog in purple suede cowboy boots. • We saw dinosaurs on a field trip to the natural history museum.

  3. Inanimate objects in action • Standing on the balcony, the ocean looked so beautiful. • He was staring at the girl by the vending machine wearing dark glasses. • Laughing loudly, the joke pleased the audience. • Oswald and Hilda found the flowers hiking up the mountain. • I found my missing baseball glove cleaning my room.

  4. How did they do that? • Flying over the African landscape, the elephant herd looked majestic. • We saw the trapeze artist swinging dangerously through our binoculars. • We tiptoed over the ice in our heavy boots, which had begun to crack. • We could see corn growing from our car window.

  5. People do the strangest things • My cousin went on and on, describing the details of her wedding in the elevator. • Scurrying into the anthill, I watched the ants with amazement. • We rented a boat from my cousin with two motors. • Dressed in a diaper and drooling, Grandpa read a book to his granddaughter. • Bruised and beaten by a better fighter, the little girl hugged her father after the boxing match.

  6. And finally, • I gave some food to my kitten and chopped it up. • The family lawyer will read the will tomorrow at the residence of Mr. Hannon, who died June 19 to accommodate his relatives. • Hanging on the wall, my mom really liked the picture. • Baking in the oven, John waited for the pizza.

  7. Write the sentences correctly to get rid of the confusion. • I gave some of my baseball cards to my cousin I had acquired over the years. • The plane landed safely on the runway that had engine trouble. • Rosa Parks calmly refused to move to the back of the bus with quiet dignity. • The softball team almost practices every afternoon. • Jan watched a deer sitting in a chair on the porch.
