Individuals: Create Less Food Waste • Buy fresh food without packaging • Be conscious of food waste • Look at expiration dates • Use leftover food, use food already purchased before buying more • Donate non perishable, unspoiled food to local food banks, shelters • And less waste & less toxic waste in general…

Contributions from Individuals @ Home • Reuse rags, jars, decorations, gift wrap • Return tires to be recycled or re-treaded • Check labels for recycled content and recyclability • Donate unused paint to neighbors/charities or take to waste collection • Buy products that contain minimal or no hazardous materials • Use minimal amount that does the job • Keep hazardous material in original containers and don’t remove labels • Recycle hazardous household waste • Support companies that practice corporate responsibility • Support restaurants that use china, silverware and glasses • Don’t buy anything disposable, just for one day

Contributions from Individuals @ Work • Recycle office paper, newspapers, beverage containers, electronics, batteries • Encourage use of non-hazardous chemicals in products & processes • State/Federal disposal regulations-electronics & mercury containing lamps • Use two sided copying and printing • Buy supplies with recycled content • Use recycled printer cartridges and recycle cartridges • Enhance before replacing computers • Select new electronics for reuse and recycling (leasing) • Share left over food and donate untouched food to food banks • Buy supplies in bulk or multi-packs • Empty desk drawers and collect stored supplies for redistribution • Consider the durability of each item purchased • Buy energy efficient items (Energy Star or EPEAT registered)

Contributions from Individuals • Garden • Feed soil with compost • Mow high and leave clippings (mulching lawn mowers – grasscycling) • Choose the right plant for the space, prepare soil, water deeply and infrequently • Travel • Hotel • Bedding / linen policy launder when requested only • Turn off lights, HVAC, TV • Shopping - combine items one bag/bring own bags • Dining - take only what you will use • Printed brochures, maps, programs – return, take only what you will use

  5. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and … • Review landscaping & food preparation • Refuse • Rot • Refill • Return • Repair • Repurpose
