  1. Gregoire Vogelsang Events Hello Makers! It has been a long long time. I hope this note finds you well and before we get into anything else, allow me to begin with a friendly reminder that the single-tap eject button is always available. One tap, and you’ll never hear from us again. Baang + Burne has been in a deep slumber for these two years. While our passion and commitment to the arts (in all forms) are steadfast and unwavering, we are still not sure what is the right next steps for us as a gallery. Until we do, these newsletters will take on a different form. Above all else, we value and respect your time and we want to make sure we've earned the space in your inbox. We will endeavor to be always relevant, useful and inspiring, that's a promise. There are lots of changes to come in the upcoming weeks and months. For now, we will kick off with a feature and highlight one of our favorite artists. Who: Gregg Emery The Event: Cube Art Fair

  2. If you haven't heard of Cube, apparently it is the next big thing. The full billing is Cube Art Fair: The American Art Fair of Brussels. It's a few years old and it is leaping across the pond from Brussels to NYC next week. Cube is founded by Gregoire Vogelsang of Vogelsang Gallery. After participating in over 50+ art fairs worldwide (god I'm tired just thinking about it), Gregoire saw an opportunity to bring American artists to European Collectors. According to an interview with NYT, Gregoire said: "Brussels is the New Berlin for art.” We are forever an iteration of something else.

  3. When: June 6-30 / VIP Opening June 7, 6-9pm It is rumored that there will be an opening reception every Thursday Evening. Where: Zaha Hadid's new building in Chelsea, 519 W 27th St. If you don't know Zaha Hadid you should give her a google and check out her work. A female Iraqi-British Architect, she's won numerous architecture awards and many times being the first woman to do so! Zaha passed away before her iconic design on the Highline was completed. Like the Guggenheim, this building will be one of those much-debated love/hate icons that make NYC special. I say this Cube Art Fair is a great reason to come and check out Hadid's last work.

  4. Why: This is the most important question and often goes unanswered. Or the answer is fubbed a little or a lot. Gregg's paintings are wonderful if abstraction is your cup of tea (I adore it). More importantly, Gregg is the type of artist we can all learn something from. He is nice first and foremost. Sincere to the core. He sells. Well and a lot. The nicety is not from the lack of ego. He teaches full time, hustles hard, paints at night, gives his time freely and willing to friends and students and fellow artists without reservation. Over the years I've seen Gregg host annual auctions selling his smaller works to friends and family at a fraction of retail (genius!), an open house where anyone can have a sketchbook filled with his original drawing for any amount they wish to give (great way to build a fan base). You can find him at dive bars, burlesque shows, and park benches sketching away. Note, these sketches do not resemble his paintings in any way. He does it because he likes it. Like all of us, Gregg's life and career have been a rollercoaster ride. When he is down, he leaves no stone unturned (again with the hustle); when he is up, he is always there to lend a hand or a shoulder to those who might need it (sincere to the core). Irrespective of the work itself, and the work is good, Gregg is a class A artist and human and you should come out just to meet him on June 7th. Your life will be made better by it. As to collecting, I would say BUY with the same enthusiasm and confidence I have for Amazon stock. His price will only go up and you will see his name more and more frequently.

  5. It's a great pleasure to be back in your inbox. We've missed you. I've missed you. If you've got show announcements you would like to share, send it our way and we will share it out like this one should it fit the bill. Our next installment won't be this long again. Promise. Love, Charlie
