  7. 450+ school buses • 36,000 students transported • 7400 bus stops twice each day • 8,000,000 miles annually! KM

  8. So, what do we have to offer you?

Part Time Driver positions Don’t get us wrong, we prefer to hire full time! • Part time drivers choose their own hours (route availability?) • Part time drivers must average less than 20 hours week • Part time drivers can choose to work mornings only • Part time drivers can choose to work afternoons only • Part time drivers can work on particular days of the week • Part time drivers will be assigned to long term routes when possible • Part time driver’s schedule must be consistent week to week • Part time drivers are paid $13.02 per hour • Part time drivers do not receive benefits • Part time drivers cannot do field trips KM

Full Time Driver positions • You are contracted for and expected to work 182 days • 180 days driving students • 6 paid holidays • 2 paid training days • Time not working (not considered unemployed) • 2 months off during summer break (limited routes) • 2 weeks during Christmas • 1 week during Thanksgiving • 1 week during Spring Break • Various days throughout the year You do not have to work during summer break, weekends, nights or holidays!!!! Driving a School Bus • Split shift • 6:00-10:00 then 1:00-5:00 (departure and return times vary) • routes vary in hours • Most routes serve 3 schools • high school • middle • elementary • Wage – $13.02 per hour • 6 hours daily = $14,686 year • 8 hours daily = $19,582 year • Supplement income with Field Trips KM

About the benefits • Current district employees transferring to Transportation retain their benefits and their original date of hire for time in service (not seniority) • Benefits for new employees begin on the first day of the month after completing one calendar month of employment as a bus driver (not counting time during training) • 1st day driving students is date of hire and beginning for F Retired from Florida Retirement System? -speak to Cheri after meeting • Pasco County School Board pays for: • HMO Basic medical plan (employee only) • Pharmacy • Behavioral health • $35,000 of life insurance coverage • Employee Assistance Program • Health & Wellness Centers • Value of benefit package: $6,385.80!!!   17. So, what we are looking for in a School Bus Driver?

What are we looking for? • People who are ethical, moral and care about the safety of children. • People who can pass an EXTENSIVE FDLE/FBI criminal background check (Barbara will give more information) • People who can commit to work 182 days a year, beginning of school to the end of school, and 2 inservice training days, attendance is a priority, no vacation days during school year unless you choose part time. • People who can communicate in English • People who can pass a DOT commercial driver physical exam • Bring list of all medications you are currently taking • Can not be insulin dependent • No missing limbs or digits • Blood pressure must be controlled 180/110 BP disqualifies • Must have at least 20/40 vision (L-R-B) (corrected) • No more that 40 decibels hearing loss in the better ear • Sugar must be controlled • No DOT waivers accepted, per DOE rule • Must disclose previous injuries, illnesses, surgeries, etc KM

What are we looking for? • People who can pass a Dexterity Test (Cheri will schedule) • Up/down steps • Brake reaction time • Open/close door • Out emergency door • People who are free of illegal drug use and can pass a drug and alcohol screening (Cheri will schedule) • People who have had a valid driver’s license at least 5 years • People with a good driving record (history) we do review it! • No more than 5 points in the last year • No more than 10 points in the last 3 years • No DIU in the last 7 years • No history of disregard for traffic laws KM

How Do You Get Hired as a Bus Driver Trainee??? • Step by step process, must successfully complete all steps to get into a class. • Each step of the hiring process and class participation is part of your “interview” and may directly affect our decision as to whether or not we offer you a position as a school bus driver once you have completed the class and all testing. • Limited spots in each class, First Come, First Serve

  32. How to get started • Submit an online application • Fingerprints • Pass 4 tests for permit • Order any needed docs: Birth Certificate, SS Card, Marriage Certificates,etc

Hiring Check Off List (page 1) • complete an online application: apply to “Bus Driver Trainee” at https://pasco.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspxto • provide 3 professional references that match your work history; • 1-supervisor, 2 others from coworkers, supervisors; clients or vendors for those whoself-employed. • please notify Cheri if you are retired from FRS (Florida Retirement System) • pass a pre-employment FBI fingerprint background check • once you email Cheri that you are interested in being hired into a class, she will send you instructions on how to schedule fingerprint appointment, your expense $60.00 (must be cleared by district) BEING FINGERPRINT BACKGROUND CLEARED FOR EMPLOYMENT BY DSBPC DOES NOT GUARANTEE EMPLOYMENT AS A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER BC

Hiring Check Off List (page 2) • immediately begin studying and passing the 4 Commercial Driver’s License permit tests at the tax collector’s office or DMV (your expense) if you PROCRATINATE, you will most likely regret it! • have a successful interview. The complete hiring process to get into a training class IS your interview. • provide us with valid Florida driver’s license (no later than 2 weeks before class begins-once you apply for CDL other states will forward past history info • have a satisfactory driving history and 5 years licensed driving • pass a physical and dexterity test. Cheri will schedule, (physical will be done by our school board approved company) BC

Cheri will schedule • have a satisfactory Previous OTETA from prior CDL employer(s) from the last two years-Barbara will collect at Info Meeting • have a satisfactory prior employment telephone reference from your critical reference. We will call • tell us in an email if you want us to wait to contact your current employer for a telephone reference or Previous OTETA verification Placement in class is not guaranteed, it is first come first serve! Cheri will confirm with you when you have met all requirements to begin class. BC

  38. FDLE/FBI background check All Applicants not currently employed by the DSBPC MUST be fingerprinted !!!!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS !!!!!!! Once you email Cheri and tell her that I Am Interested! Cheri will email fingerprint procedure instructions to you, which you must follow carefully BC

YOUR ARREST HISTORY DOES MATTER • Laws have changed to protect children • NOTHINGyou have ever been arrested for is ever hidden from DSBPC, no matter how minor, how old or hidden you think it is. • The DSBPC needs to know your entire arrest history so they can determine that you are safe to work with our children • No decision will be made until you submit your fingerprints, the district receives the results and the results are reviewed by the Professional Review Committee. The PRC will determine if you can be employed by the DSBPC BEING FINGERPRINT BACKGROUND CLEARED FOR EMPLOYMENT BY DSBPC DOES NOT GUARANTEE EMPLOYMENT AS A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER BC

  41. So, what are they looking for??? Anything & Everything

FDLE/FBI background check • HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ARRESTED FOR ANYTHING • Have ever been arrested at any age • Have you ever been fingerprinted • Have you ever been in a jail cell • Have you ever been in front of a judge • Have you ever donned an orange jump suit! • This includes DUI • This does not include simple driving infractions BC

  43. IT DOESN’T MATTER • If it has never before shown up on a background check • If you paid an attorney lots of money and they told you it was gone. • If it was when you were a minor • If there was no conviction • If it was Dismissed • If Adjudication was withheld • If it was Expunged • If it was Sealed • If it has never been questioned by a previous employer • It doesn’t matter if it was 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 years ago IT WILL SHOW UP! BC

  44. All incidents involving the law must be explained in writing and include corresponding documentation. You must provide this information to the Human Resources Manager at the District Office after you submit your fingerprints and DSBPC notifies you that they have received the results.

  45. Guidelines for Background Disclosures Following fingerprinting, applicants may be contacted to submit the following information for review by the District's Professional Review Committee: Submit a signed, detailed letter explaining the nature of the incident, the circumstances surrounding the incident, the disposition of the charges and any rehabilitative efforts that were made in connection with the incident. 2. Contact the Clerk of Courts office in the county where you were arrested and request certified copies of all documents including arrest reports, pleadings, acquittal, sealing or expunging orders, sentencing, conditions and final disposition of charges. If you were placed on probation, you will need to also submit documentation stating that probation is complete and there are no outstanding warrants. When copies of all available documents are received, submit them along with your signed detailed letter to Darrell Clark, Manager, Human Resources, at the address listed below. If you are told that the records are not available due to the length of time elapsed from the arrest date to the present, please ask the agency to state that information on their letterhead for us.
