  5. What supplies will my child need for orchestra? • Flyer was given to you as you came in the door! • Students need their supplies by MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2009!

  6. How does my child obtain an instrument? -Violins and violas may be rented from local music stores for about $15-30/month. -Cello and bass players may rent instruments for home practice. It is slightly more expensive than renting a violin or viola. -Cello and bass players may take school instruments home over the weekend for home practice, but a parent must transport the instrument to and from school. It must be returned by 9AM on Monday mornings.

  7. Can you rent instruments from the school? -We have a limited number of school owned violins and violas for students whose families cannot afford to rent an instrument. This is on a first-come-first served basis. Please obtain an instrument check-out form from Ms. Duncan in order to arrange to use a school owned instrument. -Cello and bass players will use school owned instruments during class since these instruments are not allowed on the buses.

  8. What do I look for when renting/buying an instrument? • European made instruments are generally of the best quality. • The correct sized instrument • It is best to get your instrument from a store that has an in-house repair shop with a string specialist where necessary repairs are included in the rental fee. • Fine tuners or “peg heads” • Horsehair Bow
