Early life • The Cezannes’s came from a small town called Cesana now in west piedmont. • Paul Cezanne was born in the south of France on the 19th of January 1839. • His father , Louis-Auguste Cezanne, was the co-founder of a banking firm that prospered throughout the artist’s life • His mother, Anne ElisebethHonorine, was “vivicious and romantic” but quickly offensive.

Style • Many of Cezanne’s early works were painted in dark tones applied with heavy, fluid pigment. • Paintings suggests the moody, romantic expressionism of previous generations. • He pursued his interested in the realist novel, however, committed to the representation of contemporary life. • Painted the world he observed without concern for thematic idealization or stylistic affectation.

Influences • He was influenced by Camille Pissarro. • Pissarro provide moral encouragement and introduced him to the impressionist technique for rendering outdoor light. • Like Pizarro, during 1872-73, Cezanne shifted from dark tones to bright hues and began to concentrate on scenes of farmland and rural villages.
